Abstract

821,523. Ironing presses. MALYN, J. Nov. 29, 1956 [Nov. 23, 1955], No. 33597/55. Class 138 (2). Apparatus for pressing and drying articles of clothing comprises a steam vacuum system and an air vacuum system so interconnected by valves as to permit either system to be by-passed when the apparatus is operative. The apparatus comprises a fixed hollow platen 2 and a hollow platen 3 movable manually. Steam is supplied to the platens from boiler 4 through conduits 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 and is exhausted to atmosphere by closing the pedal-controlled valves 13 and 15 and opening pedal-controlled ejector valve 14, air valves 21 and 23 being closed throughout operation of the steam system. When the air vacuum system is used all the steam valves 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17 are closed and air valve 21 is opened. Opening of pedalcontrolled air valve 23 causes air to be exhausted from the platens through conduits 12, 11, 8, 22 and 20 by vacuum pump 18.
