Abstract

821,009. High-frequency cables. WESTERN ELECTRIC CO. Inc. Nov. 20, 1957 [Nov. 26, 1956], No. 36149/57. Drawings to Specification. Class 36. A coaxial transmission line comprises concentric inner, outer and intermediate current carrying members, the intermediate member having a thickness between one-half and one skin depth at the highest frequency of electromagnetic waves transmitted over the line and the inner and intermediate members being transposed electrically at periodic intervals so that each carries substantially the same current. For minimum losses the thickness of the intermediate member is stated to be approximately 0.82 skin depths, and the diameter of the outer member is approximately 4 times that of the intermediate member. In a modification, the 'inner member, which is hollow and surrounds an insulated stranded core, has a thickness of approximately #/2 skin depths. Specification 799,453 is referred to.
