Class 126 In a gas-fired water heater having a flue outlet at the upper part of the casing, a down draught diverter is arranged within the casing, the side walls of which have openings for the escape of diverted down draughts. A down draught diverter within the casing of a gas-fired water heater comprises a lower inverted funnel with a rectangular base 5, vertical front and back faces and sides sloping to a rectangular outlet and an upper inverted funnel with a rectangular base 16 and a circular outlet 17 with a socket 31 for a flue pipe. The lower edges of the sides of the upper funnel are spaced from the sides 10 of the heating casing to provide relief outlets, and openings 13 are formed in the sides of the heater between the lower edges of the two funnels. The base part 5 of the lower funnel is connected to a chamber 14 above the burner 9, and surrounds a stack of pins 8 which project above the chamber 14. The upper end of the lower funnel is at the same level as the lower end of the upper funnel, and extends the full depth front to back of the heater. A baffle plate 26 above the outlet slot of the lower lower funnel is secured within the upper funnel, and deflecter plates 22 with triangular side walls 23 extend from near the lower edges of the openings 13 to the lower edges of the upper funnel. Grills formed of slats 32 are provided in the openings 13. The upper funnel may form the top wall of the heater. The upper edges of the defector plates 22 are spaced away from and below the edges of the horizontal baffle 26 which extends from front to back of the upper funnel.
