Abstract

820,228. Motor propelled hand trucks; steering. MATLING Ltd. Jan. 7, 1958 [Jan. 7, 1957], No. 591/57. Classes 79(3) and 79(5) In a fork lift truck having straddle legs 1, Fig. 1, the wheels 4 on the ends of the legs are steerable so that the truck may be driven at an angle to the legs. In one example the wheels 4 are mounted in rings 3 which pivot about a vertical axis on rollers 5, and the wheels are steered individually by levers 10 through push rods 7 and crank arms 6, 8. In operation one of the wheels may be locked in either of two positions 90 degrees apart, by a pin 11 engaging recesses 11a in the frame and the other wheel 4 may be free to castor. In other embodiments the wheels are steered through linkages or chains from a single steering wheel and may steer simultaneously with the steered power unit. Hydraulic or electrical power steering is referred to. Specification 744,308 [Group XXX] is referred to.
