Abstract
819,984. Broaching. DETROIT BROACH & MACHINE CO. Aug. 28, 1957 [April 29, 1957], No. 27164/57. Class 83 (3). A surface-broaching-machine comprises a double-acting piston 42 for reciprocating a rack 36 engaging a pinion 35 on a crank-shaft 27 having a crank 30 connected by a rod 34 to a work-slide 26. The movement of the piston 42 is limited in one direction by a head 48 positioned by shims 480, and the movement of the rack 36 is limited in the opposite direction by a head 39 positioned by shims 390. However, before the slide 26 reaches its working position it abuts stops 58, and the advancing mechanism then becomes stressed to resist the cutting forces. A second slide 25 is operated oppositely to the slide 26. The broaching-slides 15, 16 are operated hydraulically or mechanically. Specification 637,118 is referred to.
