Abstract

819,754. Pipe couplings. WEDNESBURY TUBE CO. Ltd., and CARTLIDGE, E. Feb. 25, 1958 [March 1, 1957], No. 6823/57. Class 99(1). A coupling for thermo-plastic pipes 13, e.g. of polyethylene, comprises a rigid hollow body 10 of plastic including externally screwthreaded spigots for connection of the pipes, and coupling nuts 11 provided with radially, inward, annular flanges 16. Rigid rings 12 of plastic having an external diameter greater than the internal diameter of the pipes are forced into the ends of the pipes to provide a protruding annular abutment for the flanges of the nuts and for the confronting spigot ends. The body, nuts and rings may be of moulded polyvinyl chloride. As shown, the spigots and the flanges 16 are internally chamfered or radiussed and the rings are quadrantal in cross-section.
