Class 137 [Also in Group XIII] In an air conditioner for conditioning air to a given temperature and water content, cold air of high humidity from which water and ice are to be removed is passed through an inlet 5 into an outer chamber 1 of the conditioner whose outer walls are lagged at 2, and warm air, heated e.g. by waste or other heat from a conditioning plant, is pumped through a tube 8 is disposed centrally within the chamber. The warm air then passes out through a venturi 10 to mix with the initially cold, wet air as it passes through an outlet 6 at the upper end of the outer chamber 1. The tube 8, made of highly heat conductive material, carries on its outer surface a large number of inclined radial fins 9 which project into the chamber 1 and collect water and melted ice from the cold air stream, the moisture running down for discharge from an opening 7 formed in the bottom of the chamber 1 remote from the inlet 5. In the arrangement, Fig. 3, hot air from a vortex tube 20 passes through a cock 24 and is cooled in a heat exchanger 22. It is then fed to the tube 8, the cold air output 23 from the vortex being delivered to the inlet 5 of the chamber 1.
