Abstract
819,616. Hinges and pivots. GENERAL. MOTORS CORPORATION. Sept. 16, 1957 [Sept. 17, 1956], No. 29023/57. Class 65(2) [Also in Group XXXII] A motor vehicle fuel tank filler spout 28 projects into a hollow bumper 14 which has a hinged lid 36 held in the open and closed positions by a spring 64 having an overcentre action. The hinge comprises a section 44 carrying the lid and having a central lip 78, which is pivoted at 38 to a section 42 secured by bolts 48 to the bumper and formed at both ends with lugs 56 which extend away from the hinge axis in planes perpendicular thereto. The ends of the spring, which is made of wire, engage notches 60 in the lugs 56, and the spring is formed as two generally V-shaped torsion portions 66 convoluted at 70 and joined by a bight 68 engaging the lip 78.
