Abstract

1289429 Car boot opener; hinges GENERAL MOTORS CORP 12 Aug 1971 [9 Sept 1970] 37886/71 Headings E2F and E2M In a motor vehicle body 10, having a compartment opening 14, and a hinged lid 16, a torque rod 28, biassed towards the open position, carrying a pair of hairpin portions 30, lying on a common axis and extending from a common bight 48 functions as an opening and closing means and also utilizes the end portions of the rod as pintles 38. As shown in Figure 2, a plate 18 which extends laterally of the body 10, has lugs 20 carrying apertures 22 adjacent the ends, aligned with apertures 24 in lugs 25 of a plate 26 secured to the lid 16 and into these apertures is inserted the pintle ends of the offset portions 36 of hairpin portions 30. The pintles are retained in position by depressed flanges 42. Lid opening is limited by stop 44 engaging the flange 46 associated with plate 26. The loop portion of the rod biassed to the open position of the lid is retained in bight 48. In a modification not shown the ends of the hairpin portions overlap.
