Abstract
819,543. Laggings for underground workings. HEWLAND, P. Jan. 14, 1958 [Jan. 14, 1957], No. 1332/57. Class 20(2) A lagging for underground workings supported by arches comprises two rods 11 connected by braces, diagonal wires or wire mesh 10, and has a hook 9 at one end, which end may be open (as shown) or closed by a transverse member 15, and hooked around an arch while the other end is bent around the adjacent arch. The latter end may already be part bent and cut to size. Expanding bends 13 may be provided and the lagging may taper towards the straight or hooked end, so as to fit within the open end of the next lagging. The lagging may be galvanized and the wire braces, which may be in the form of a continuous wire, welded, brazed or tied to the members 11. Other forms of bracing are illustrated in Figs. 4-11 (not shown).
