Abstract
The invention comprises methylmercuric pentachlorophenolate which may be prepared by reacting (a) an aqueous solution of methylmercuric nitrate with an aqueous solution of sodium pentachlorophenolate or (b) an alcoholic solution of methylmercuric hydroxide with an alcoholic solution of pentachlorophenol, in each case recrystallizing the resultant product from alcohol. The product may be used in fungicidal or insecticidal compositions (see Group VI). An example of each method of preparation is given.ALSO:Methylmercuric pentachlorophenolate may be used together with one or more inert solid and/or liquid fillers in fungicidal compositions. Specified fillers include kaolin, talc and marl. The active compound may be slurried with a surface-active agent. Other insecticides such as lindane, dieldrin or aldrin may also be incorporated.
