Abstract

The invention comprises the selective herbicidal compound, o -monochloroisopropyl N-(3-chlorophenyl)-carbamate. An example describes the preparation of this compound by the reaction of 3-chlorophenyl isocyanate with 1-chloropropanol-(2) in benzene in the presence of triethylamine. Herbicidal compositions of the product are described (see Group VI).ALSO:A selective herbicidal preparation comprises o - monochloro - isopropyl N - (3 - chlorophenyl) - carbamate in admixture with a liquid or solid carrier. The compound may be employed in solution in such solvents as cyclohexanone, xylene, toluene, acetone, aliphatic alcohols or methyl - naphthalenes, or as an aqueous emulsion using an emulsifying agent. A dusting powder can be prepared by impregnating clay, talc or other solid carrier with a solution in acetone of the carbamate and an emulsifying agent. After evaporation of the acetone the product may be diluted with more of the carrier or formed into a suspension in water or other liquid carrier.
