818,760. Upholstery springing. PARKERKNOLL Ltd. Oct. 29, 1957 [Nov. 2, 1956; Jan. 9, 1957], Nos. 33576/56 and 883/57. Class 52(4) The seat or back springing of a settee comprises spring members spanning the side frame members of the settee and supported at at least one point along the length by a pad of resilient material 9 which is itself supported resiliently or by a rigid frame cross member 4. The spring members may comprise resilient webbing or pairs of tension springs 5, 5<SP>1</SP> connected either by strips of webbing 6 secured as shown to the frame member 4 to prevent lateral movement of the springs or to a single piece of webbing spanning the frame. The pad may consist of latex, foam elastomer or padded compression springs and may be supported by tension springs extending parallel or perpendicular to the spring members 5, 5<SP>1</SP>. Instead of joining the ends of springs 5, 5<SP>1</SP> together the springs may be connected to the crossmembers 4 by a separate webbing strip passing over a corresponding pad 9.
