Abstract

A feed suitable for preparing resins is obtained by subjecting a heavy catalytically-cracked naphtha boiling in the range 150-490 DEG F. to cracking in the presence of 50-90 mol. per cent steam based on the naphtha and separating from the product a fraction boiling from 250-490 DEG F. A hydrocarbon feed, e.g. a gas oil boiling in the range 380-1000 DEG F. is subjected to conventional catalytic cracking in the presence of a fluidized catalyst and at 0-30 p.s.i.g. and 800-1000 DEG F. From the products of this a fraction boiling in the range 150-490 DEG F. is separated and steam cracked at 1000-1500 DEG F. and the steam cracked product again fractionated.
