Abstract
817,718. Transfer mechanism. BENT Ltd., G. April 25, 1958 [Jan. 25, 1957], No. 2753/57. Class 106 (1). In a cyclometer type counter comprising coaxially mounted, internally toothed numeral wheels, transfer is effected by a pinion mechanism. As shown, Fig. 4, each numeral wheel F of the counter is provided with twenty internal teeth T<SP>2</SP>, gearing with which are the teeth of a first pinion P<SP>1</SP> comprising ten alternately long and short teeth T<SP>1</SP> on one side of an abutment D and two diametrically-opposed transfer teeth T<SP>4</SP> aligned with long teeth on the other side of the abutment D. The transfer teeth T<SP>4</SP> are adapted for co-operation with the short teeth of a second pinion R comprising eight alternately long and short teeth T<SP>3</SP>, the pinion R also being provided on the other side of an abutment D with a single transfer tooth T<SP>5</SP> aligned with a long tooth and adapted for co-operation with the short teeth of the first pinion P<SP>2</SP> for the next higher denomination. The abutments D serve as locking-rings. Thus a complete revolution of the numeral wheel F causes two complete revolutions of the associated pinion P<SP>1</SP> which causes four transfers, corresponding to a single revolution, of the pinion R, thereby rotating the next pinion P<SP>2</SP> by one-fifth of a revolution, so driving the next higher numeral wheel F on by one digit position. The drive to the counter is from the pinion P<SP>1</SP> for the lowest denomination. The pinions P<SP>1</SP>, P<SP>2</SP>, &c., are mounted on a common spindle and the pinions R are mounted on a parallel common spindle, both spindles extending through the numeral wheels. The numeral wheels may be supported in an external transparent casing (Fig. 2, not shown), and may be in the form of flexible bands (Fig. 3, not shown).
