Abstract

816,971. Selective printing. OLIVETTI & CIE S.p.A., ING. C. June 11, 1957 [June 19. 1956], No. 18432/57. Class 100(4) A high speed printer of the kind using a set of type-wheels 2, each frictionally driven by a continuously running motor, comprises a clock signal generator, control means 5-8 for arresting all the type-wheels in a predetermined mutual position, and timing means for unsetting the control in timed relation to the clock signal generator to enable the type wheels to resume their rotation in synchronism with the clock signals. The clock signal generator comprises a toothed magnetic disc 19 whose teeth co-operate with a magnetic pick-up head 20 and the variable reluctance which occurs induces a voltage which is amplified to produce the signals. These signals are used to operate the control means comprising a solenoid 8, a comb coil 6 and a zeroizing tooth 5 associated with each wheel 2. Also the signals control electronic circuits comprising and-gates, onestep multivibrators, flip-flops, switches, delay units and counters to operate selecting solenoids 11 and a solenoid 18 which upon operation releases a crank 17, and through rod 14, throws a platen 12 leftwards to effect impression.
