Abstract

The invention comprises solid salts consisting of dyestuffs of the formula A + X-, where A+ is the cationic radical of a salt of an auramine dyestuff and X- is the anionic radical of a monobasic nitrogen oxyacid such as nitric or nitrous acid, and a process for making them by reacting a water-soluble salt of an auramine dyestuff with a water-soluble ammonium, alkali-metal or alkaline-earth metal salt of a monobasic nitrogen oxyacid in aqueous solution. Cationic radicals specified are those of Auramine O <FORM:0815966/IV (c)/1> and Auramine G <FORM:0815966/IV (c)/2> and may be introduced into the reaction as the hydrochlorides or sulphates. Monobasic nitrogen oxyacid salts specified are sodium, potassium, ammonium or calcium nitrates or sodium, potassium or barium nitrites. Examples are given.
