Abstract
815,616. Model railway vehicle couplings. PRITCHARD, S. C. July 19, 1957 [July 19, 1956], No. 22395/56. Class 132(3) [Also in Group XXXII] A coupling for model railway vehicles which swings sideways for coupling and uncoupling comprises a coupling hook provided with a projection which interengages with the hook of a similar coupling to limit vertical movement between the couplings and thus to avoid uncoupling due to the couplings either being out of adjustment or to irregularities in the track causing one coupling to ride above the other. As, shown, a coupling arm 12 which is intended to swivel only sideways is provided with a hook 17 having a vertically extending portion 17a and a rearwardly extending projection 17b. The projection on one of a pair of interengaged couplings limits relative vertical movement in one direction and the projection on the other coupling limits relative vertical movement in the other direction. The arm 12 also has a depending uncoupling striker member 21. The projection may alternatively be provided at the top of the vertically extending portion of the hook instead of at the bottom, the projection then serving as means for retaining other couplings, e.g. a chain. The coupling arm may comprise a leaf spring mounted on the vehicle so that the hook can swing sideways. Specification 605,283 is referred to.
