Abstract

814,469. Axle-box lids. SYMINGTONGOULD CORPORATION. April 27, 1956 [May 2, 1955], No. 12973/56. Class 12 (1). An axle-box lid comprises a cover 4, a hood 3 having spaced legs which are connected by a web 17 which projects into a cavity 16 in the outer surface of the cover 4, the web having an outwardly facing part-spherical surface 19, and a bridge member 21 having a pair of substantially flat arms 23 secured to the cover 4 on opposite sides of the cavity 16 and having a socket portion 20 overlying and receiving the spherical portion 19 of the web 17. The hood 3 is pivotally connected to a hinge lug 5 of the journal box through a hinge pin 6, and a torsion spring 8, disposed within the hood 3, carries a roller 11 adapted to bear against the hinge lug 5 and has spaced extensions 13 which bear against the outer surface of the cover 4.
