Abstract

814,296. Discharge tubes. TELEFUNKEN G. m. b. H. Sept. 26, 1955 [Sept. 25, 1954], No. 27304/55 Class 39(1). During the mounting of a filamentary member, such as a discharge tube filament, which is normally held under tension by a spring arm, the said arm is constrained by a fixed abutment, allowing the filament to be attached in a slack state ; the abutment is then moved or removed, allowing the arm to tension the filament. As shown, a spring 7 is welded to the lower limb of the U-shaped member 6, Fig. 4, which is then secured to the support 3, Fig. 1. Member and spring are both bent at right-angles, so that the end of the spring can be welded to the tag 8 of the filament 5, which is slack in this position. The restraining effect of the member 6 on the spring 7 is then removed, either by bending the member back, as at 9, or by cutting part of it away. The released spring thus pulls the filament taut. In the modification of Fig. 8, a torsion spring is used, the loop portion 19 fitting over the central limb 22 of an E-shaped member, whose top limb 21 is bent over to constrain the spring downward sufficiently to allow of attachment to the filament tag 8. Afterwards it may be cut away, or bent back into the position shown, to tension the filament. If it is bent back, in the event of a filament breakage the released spring is allowed only a limited traverse (angle 23), thus preventing possible contact with other tube elements.
