Abstract
A hydroxy resinous polymer, e.g. polyvinyl alcohol, is reacted to form a complex with an organic nitrogen compound having in the molecule at least four organic radicals or hydrogen atoms linked to a nitrogen atom or atoms, e.g. an imidazoline derivative solubilized with acetic acid, the compound obtained from ethylene diamine wherein one nitrogen atom is made tertiary and the other reacted to form an amide, tetraethylene pentamine reacted with acetic acid or dicoco dimethyl ammonium chloride. The hydroxy resin may be already complexed with a titanium compound as described in Specification 813,601.ALSO:Glass fibres are provided with a coating comprising a complex formed by the reaction of an organic nitrogen compound having in the molecule at least four organic radicals or hydrogen atoms linked to a nitrogen atom or atoms with a hydroxy resinous polymer. The organic nitrogen compound may be an imidazoline derivative solubilized with acetic acid, the compound obtained from ethylene diamine wherein one nitrogen atom is made tertiary and the other reacted to form an amide, tetraethylene pentamine reacted with acetic acid or dicoco dimethyl ammonium chloride. The hydroxy resin may be polyvinyl alcohol which may already be complexed with a titanium ester or salt as described in Specification 813,601. Coating compositions specified are aqueous and include an acid (acetic or hydrochloric) and one composition contains stearato chromic chloride.
