Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the general formula <FORM:0669016/IV (b)/1> wherein "acyl" stands for an aliphatic acyl radical derived from an aliphatic carboxylic acid having not more than 5 carbon atoms in the molecule, the alkyl group of which may contain, e.g., halogen substituents, or for an aromatic acyl radical, e.g. benzoyl. The compounds may be made by reacting benzhydryl urea with the appropriate carboxylic acid halide, anhydride, or carboxylic acid and anhydride in the presence of an acid binding agent. Alternatively benzhydrol is reacted with a monoacylated urea. Examples describe the preparation of (1) N-benzhydryl-N1-formyl-urea by reacting benzhydryl urea with formic acid and acetic anhydride; (2) N-benzhydryl-N1-acetyl urea from (A) benzhydryl urea and acetyl chloride; (B) benzhydrol and acetylurea, in presence of acetic acid and anhydride and sulphuric acid. Similarly to (2A) are prepared (3) N-benzhydryl-N1-propionylurea; (5) N-benzhydryl-N1-benzoylurea; (6) N-benzhydryl-N1-chloracetylurea. Similarly to (2B) is prepared (4) N-benzhydryl-N1-butyrylurea.
