Abstract
813,404. Inspecting fabrics. JONES, E. J. June 3, 1957 [June 1, 1956], No. 17018/56. Classes 42 (1) and 42 (2). A form for use in inspecting ladies' stockings after removal from the knitting machine and for removing the splice float from the heel splice comprises a member formed with a channel of curved cross-section which is formed at one end with horns 6 and merges at the other end into a flat portion 2. As shown in Fig. 1, the stocking 9 is arranged so that the rolled welt 8 as disposed over the horns and the stocking hangs inside the channel. The stocking is then drawn over the form so that it is inside out and stretched over the form so that the splice float may be removed with a knife as shown in Fig. 5. The form is pivotally mounted on a trolley 23 which is provided with a surface 26 in which are placed the stocking before or after treatment. The severed ends of the cut float are sheared by a tool 31 and the loose ends are removed by a suction device 29 connected through a flexible tube 30 to the tool 31 and driven by an electric motor 28.
