To permit the variation of the timing of the feed-dog lift drive independently of that of the shuttle drive the feed lift shaft 22 and the shuttle shaft 13 are oscillated by separate, relatively adjustable means from the arm shaft 4. A pitman 10 connected to an angularly adjustable cam 12 on the arm shaft oscillates a bed shaft 8 having a fork arm 18 which in turn oscillates a crank arm 16 connected to the shuttle shaft 13. A second pitman 44 connected to another eccentric 46 also angularly adjustable on the arm shaft oscillates the crank 43 of a sleeve 40 secured to a cam 38 journalled on the bed shaft 8. The cam 38 co-operates with a fork 37 integral with the feed lift shaft 22 to oscillate the latter as the arm shaft revolves. The timing of the shuttle shaft can be varied by the adjustment of the eccentric 12 on the arm shaft 4, while that of the feed lift mechanism can be varied either by the adjustment of the eccentric 46 on the arm shaft or by the adjustment of the cam 38 relatively to the sleeve 40.
