Abstract
813,210. Endless belt conveyers; pulley mountings. CABLE BELT Ltd. Nov. 6, 1957 [Dec. 3, 1956], No. 36905/56. Classes 78 (1) and 78 (5). In a belt conveyer of the kind in which the belt 19 is supported on both upper and lower runs by a pair of endless driving cables 18 which engage grooves in the lateral edge portions of the belt and which are supported at intervals along the conveyer by pulleys, the pulleys supporting the central portions of the cables are themselves supported on fixed cables extending along both sides of the conveyer. In one embodiment, Figs. 3-5, two pairs of fixed cables 24, 25 are arranged at different levels to support respectively pulleys 34 for the upper run of the cable 18 and pulleys 38 for the lower run of the cable 18. The cables 24, 25 are secured at their ends to stanchions 26 and are supported at intervals on stands 27 each of which consists of a strutted upright 29 on each side the conveyer carrying brackets 31, 32 having arcuate longitudinal grooves in which the cables 24, 25 respectively rest. The pulleys 34 are located in the spaces between adjacent stands 27 while the pulleys 38 are located in alternate spaces between the stands. The pulleys 34 are mounted on shafts 33 and the pulleys 38 are mounted on shafts 37. The shafts 33, 37 are respectively secured to the cables 24, 25 by pairs of U-bolts 35, the U-bolts of each pair being arranged on opposite sides of the associated cable and engaging in a clamping plate 36 which clamps the cable 24 between notches in the plate 36 and the shaft 33 or 37. Turnbuckles 39 are interposed between the cables and the stanchions 26 and between successive lengths of the cables. Conventional pulleys 22 mounted on stands 23 are used to support the driving cables 18 near the reversal-points of the conveyer. In a second embodiment, Fig. 8, the fixed cables 24, 25 are replaced on each side of the conveyer by a single cable 44 which supports both upper and lower cable run supporting pulleys 45, 46 by means of brackets 49 having slots 52 and 53 to receive the shafts 47, 48 carrying the pulleys, the shafts 47, 48 having circumferential grooves to engage these slots. The brackets 49 are secured to the cables 44 by clamping plates 51.
