Abstract

813,197. Cushions &c. REISNER, M. Sept. 18, 1956, No. 28485/56. Class 52(4) Relates to means for securing to foamed elastomer shapes 2, fabric covers made up of top and bottom face panels 4, 5 and a peripheral edge panel 6 joined together by stitched seams t, preferably welted as at w, the stitching on at least three sides being effected with the cover inside out. According to the invention along at least two opposite panel edges a tape 7 is secured by one edge in the seam, an adhesive band 8 on the inner surface of the tape secures it to the core, and the outer surface of the tape is not attached to the cover. As shown, two tapes are secured to each seam, one for each of the panels joined thereby. In making the cushion, the tapes are stitched to the edges of all panels by inner and outer rows of stitching 10, 9, the former being chain stitching. The panels are then seamed and turned right side out to form an open bag, and the core is inserted. Each tape has a cover band 8c for the adhesive and this is then pulled away and out of the bag by a draw string 8d. The mouth of the bag is then stitched up and the cover is pressed down to effect the adhesion. Finally, chain stitching 10 is undone from the exterior of the cushion to free the tapes from the cover.
