775,635. Elastic bands for garments. NOBELT, Ltd. Nov. 29, 1955, No. 34148/55. Class 141. A garment band comprises a strip 12 of elastic sheet rubber superposed on the garment material 11, and a covering sheath 14 with inturned edges 141, 14<SP>2</SP>, the edge portion of the material 11 being turned over to form a deep hem 11<SP>1</SP> and substantially to close the open side of the sheath, and the layers being stitched together at 15<SP>1</SP>-15<SP>4</SP>. The rubber strip 12 may lie either between the garment material 11 and the hem 11<SP>1</SP> as in Fig. 2, or between the hem 11<SP>1</SP> and the sheath 14 as in Fig. 3. The bottom row of stitching 15<SP>4</SP> may penetrate the strip 12, or be disposed below the lower edge of the strip. A shirred effect is obtained by stitching with the elastic strip 12 stretched.
