An electrode for an alkaline accumulator is made by compressing pulverulent active material into a metal frame which is to constitute an edge protection for the finished electrode. As described, an initially-L-sectioned, rectangular, metal frame 1, having a metal insert 2 of expanded metal or netting electrically connected to it, is filled with pulverulent active material. The active material is then pressed to form a compact body 3<SP>1</SP> and the projecting web of the frame is bent down and embedded in the surface of the compressed material. The frame may be perforated.
