Abstract
862,092. Batteries. GRUBENLAMPENWERKE VEB. Feb. 4, 1958, No. 3635/58. Class 53. A sealed alkaline nickel-cadmium accumulator has mixed with the active materials an inactive material capable of absorbing electrolyte to an extent not less than is absorbed by the active material. The inactive material may consist of gelatine, silica gel, regenerated cellulose, polyvinyl alcohol or sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, and may be applied to the active material as a solution or emulsion or mixed with it in powder form. The positive electrode may be activated by a solution of cobalt sulphate and may contain a small quantity of cadmium sulphate to repress gas evolution, and the cadmium electrode may be activated by the addition of a small quantity of nickel sulphate. To prevent the particles of the negative active material from becoming sintered it may have mixed with it a small quantity of polystyrene or a polyamide in solution, emulsion, or powder form.
