Abstract
812,986. Continuous-discharge mixing machines. HOLO-FLITE INTERNATIONAL Inc. May 21, 1957 [July 20, 1956], No. 22530/56. Class 86 [Also in Groups XIII and XXX] Fluent material such as sand. salt, sugar, gravel or baby food is heated or cooled, and mixed, in a trough 27 by screw flights 52, 53 extending between drum headers 37 mounted on a rotated shaft 31 which like the flights and headers is hollow for the flow therethrough of hot or cold fluid. As shown, the flights 52, 53 and the hollow standards 39 on which they are mounted are fixed with respect to the headers 37 and move in a circular path as the shaft 31 rotates but the flights may be rotatable and interleaved one with another. The material enters through an inlet in a top on the trough and passes out through a bottom outlet at the other end and the retention time of the material in the apparatus is determined by the proportion of right hand flights 52 to left hand flights 53. Various combinations of the forms of flight indicated in Figs. 2, 6, and 7 may be used.
