Abstract

812,529. Sockets. FRASER, M. W. Aug. 19, 1957, No. 26128/57. Class 83 (3). In a socket H, a tool 3 having a conical end S and an annular groove 16, is centred and held respectively, by a conical seat 18 in a bore 11<SP>1</SP> of a body 11 and three equispaced balls 19. The body 11 has radial bores 17 for the balls, and an external flange 24. A sleeve 10, slidable on the body 11, has an annular recess 20 to accommodate the balls 19 and allow insertion of the tool shank 3, a spring 25, acting between a flange 11 on the body and the sleeve, biasing the sleeve to the position shown to force the balls into groove 16 by an annular cam surface 21. Pins 15 projecting into the bore 11<SP>1</SP> engage a flat on the tool shank to prevent rotation. A spring ring 26 prevents disengagement of the sleeve 10, and the body may be driven by a screwed end 8 or a taper shank and tag end.
