Abstract

811,642. Pipe couplings. INTERNATIONAL DRILL CORPORATION (PROPRIETARY) Ltd. March 13, 1956, No. 7824/56. Class 99(1) [Also in Group XXIX] A shut-off valve 13 located at the junction of a conduit 3 and spigot 4 and which closes under the action of fluid conveyed by the conduit upon removal, from the latter, of the spigot, comprises a sleeve 5 formed with an annular seat 6 for the valve the stem 9 of which extends through the seat and has radiating from the axis thereof a number of vanes which are a rotating fit in the sleeve and maintain the valve coaxial with the conduit. The vanes are so shaped that the valve is rotated by the flow of fluid, and the valve is held off the seat when the stem is in contact with the spigot. As shown, the metal sleeve is provided with a swaged ridge 7 for holding the valve seat in place, and is retained in the conduit by a clamp 15. The ends of the vanes are bent over to provide portions 11 thereof transverse to the direction of fluid flow.
