Abstract

811,544. Stud and socket fastenings; anchor nuts. TINNERMAN PRODUCTS Inc. March 4, 1957 [June 1, 1956], No. 7098/57. Classes 44 and 89(1) A one-piece fastener comprises a piece of resilient sheet metal defining a pair of spaced body portions 22, 24, connected at one end by a return head and adapted to extend through an opening 19 in a wall 7 in compressed relation, with the return head leading, an aperture in one of the spaced body portions, stud engaging means 28 about said aperture adapted toengage a stud 17 inserted through the aperture for securing a co-operating part to the wall and means on one or each body portion remote from the return head, adapted to engage opposite sides of the wall adjacent the opening to retain the fastener in attached position in the opening. As shown, each body portion is provided with means for retaining the fastener in the opening, these means comprising head portions 36 which are bent to extend in inwardly mclined relation to the body portions so that when the fastener is engaged in the opening they are biased slightly outwardly by engagement with one surface of the wall 7; the opposite surface of the wall is engaged by shoulders 38 which are in the form of tabs sheared out of the side edges of the body portions. Before the fastener is assembled in the opening 19 the body portions are slightly inclined relative to each other so that the fastener is compressed when in the opening and the extent of compression is limited by an abutment 42 bent out of the body portion 24. The stud engaging means as shown is a key hole type of aperture, the edge of which is bent to engage a screwthreaded stud; any other means for engaging a screw thread can, however, be provided.
