Abstract

811,182. Photographic papers. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Aug. 16, 1957 [Aug. 20, 1956], No. 25361/56. Class 98(2) Photographic light-sensitive silver halide printing paper contains in the paper base or in a subbing, emulsion or overcoat layer, a fluorescent brightening agent which in the form of its free acid has the formula:- wherein R is chlorine, phenylamino or diphenylylamino. Examples are given of adding sodium salts of the agents to gelatine silver halide emulsions coated on a paper base subbed with gelatine hardened with formaldehyde, or to such a subbing layer which is then overcoated with the emulsion and finally with a protective layer of gelatine hardened with formaldehyde. Specifications 623,849, 624,052 and 704,974 [all in Group IV(b)] are referred to.
