Abstract

810,215. Sterilizing milk, beer &c. JACOBSSON, B. Feb. 15, 1956 [Feb. 16, 1955], No. 4802/56. Class 49. [Also in Group XVII] A method of bulk-pasteuring and bottling beverages, e.g. milk or malt beverages, wherein an even flow of the beverage is made to pass through a plate pasteurizer 2 irrespective of any interruptions in the bottling process, comprises passing beverage through the pasteurizer to a bottle-filling machine 1 along a main line 3, a line 4 by-passing the pasteurizer such that if the capacity of the bottle-filling machine is exceeded the beverage passes through the by-pass line. A pump 6 is able to force a substantially constant amount of beverage through the pasteurizer at various pressures, the pressure in the machine 1 is adjusted by regulating the pressure in a pressure chamber 7, and a check valve 5 allows beverage to flow in one direction only in the by-pass line. Parts 8 and 9 signify a pump and separator respectively.
