Abstract
809,140. Writing instruments. SCRIPTO Inc. Sept. 6, 1956, No. 27378/56. Class 146(3) Means for projecting a spring-retracted ball-point pen unit 10 to writing position comprises a plunger 30 engaging the inner end of the pen to move it forward, and a member 32 fixed to the plunger and having a lateral projection 68 which engages a two-limbed cam slot 64 in a member 46 fixed to a rotatable cap 28, the projection 68 sliding down the slot 64 and engaging a locking notch 66 when the pen is projected and being released for retraction of the pen by rotating the cap 28. The member 32 where it engages the plunger 30 is of split tubular formation and has an enlarged semi-cylindrical end 40 slidable in a similarly shaped recess 42 in a sleeve 24 fixed to the part 14 of a twopart barrel 12, 14 and is thus prevented from rotating. Opposite the recess 42 is a smaller semi-cylindrical recess 44 which accommodates the ink reservoir 18. The member 46 also is of split cylindrical shape where it fits into the rotatable cap, and the slot 64 is formed in a semi-cylindrical enlarged end 50 thereof, encircling the part 40 of the member 32.
