Abstract

808,850. Linear motors. CELANESE CORPORATION OF AMERICA. Feb. 23, 1956 [Feb. 23, 1955], No. 5634/56. Class 35. [Also in Group IX] Reciprocating coil-winding guides 12 are driven by a linear electromagnetic motor comprising an aluminium plate 37 situated between poles 27, 38 carrying reversing travelling fields. The yarn 11 is fed to a take-up roll 14 frictionally driven by a feed roll 13. The travelling field is produced by a row of E-shaped laminated cores 24 carrying three-phase energizing coils 25 and placed above and below the plate 37. The core-legs have transversely laminated pole-shoes 27, 28 secured by rods 32 passing through holes in them, the rods being secured by clamps 33 held by screws 34 at each end. The upper and lower poles are relatively staggered. The top edge of the armature plate is guided by bearing blocks 39 sliding between guides 41. At its lower edge the plate is carried by a slide-rod 45, and the motion is reversed at each end by spring buffers 54, a solid abutment also being provided to limit the motion. It is described how the energization of the coils 25 is periodically reversed by a motor-driven reversing switch. A further motor-driven switch which accelerates slowly serves to bring the device up to speed.
