Abstract

A building material is mixed with at least one material capable of transforming high energy radiation into lower energy radiation which lower radiation can be absorbed, at least in part, by the building material or transformer, to produce a composite material which is thus able to absorb through said transformation part, at least, of high energy radiation to which it is subjected. A plurality of transformers can be used for mixed high-energy radiations whereby corresponding mixed lower radiations are produced stepwise. Specified building materials are magnesia, magnesium chloride or cement (singly or in combination) mixed with aggregates. Transformers specified are paraffinic hydrocarbons, cadmium, its oxide, sulphate, tungstate, other inorganic cadmium compounds but excluding its binary compounds with Group VIb elements, inorganic selenium compounds (but excluding binary compounds with Group II elements), heavy metals and their inorganic compounds (excluding the sulphides, selenides and tellurides of bismuth, lead, arsenic, antimony or thallium). Specification 804,157, [Group V], is referred to.ALSO:A building material is mixed with at least one material capable of transforming high energy radiation into lower energy radiation, which lower energy radiation can be absorbed\sv at least in part, by the building material or the transformer, to produce a composite material which is thus able to absorb through said transformation part, at least of high energy radiation to which it is subjected. Heavy metals are those precipitable by hydrogen sulphide in acid solution. Specification 804,157 is referred to.
