Feb. 19, 1957 [Feb. 22, 1956], No. 5625/57. Class 78 (1). In apparatus for packing material in goafs by compressed air of the kind in which the material is fed into the conveying pipe by a rotary bucket wheel 2, the upper and lower faces of which are sealed by non-rotary rings 7, 8, the rings are pressed against the wheel by clamping bolts 27 pivoted to levers 21, 22 which are mounted on the housing at one end 28 and inserted at the other into grooves in movable members 16, 20. The member 16 is a cylinder and is movable longitudinally in a guide 18 secured to the fixed hollow shaft 1 on which the bucket wheel 2 rotates. The cylinder 16 contains a piston 15 which is secured to a rod 14 movable in the shaft 1. The lower end of the rod 14 is attached to the member 20 which is slidably mounted in the machine base. The cylinder 16 is connected by pipes 23, 24 to a pump 25. When pressure medium is admitted to the cylinder, the piston 15 and the cylinder 16 are moved in opposite directions and the rings 7, 8 are pressed on to the wheel with equal pressure. Packing 29 surrounding the rings is put under pressure by medium supplied by the pump to annular flexible tubes 30, 31 through connections 32, 33.
