Abstract

808,172. Cooling bearings. CONSOLIDATED PNEUMATIC TOOL CO. Ltd. April 23, 1956 [April 26, 1955], No. 11990/55. Class 12 (1). [Also in Groups XIII and XXVI] Lubricating oil is injected into the compressor chamber of a rotary air or gas compressor to abstract the heat of compression, some of the oil being diverted to the rotor bearings for lubrication purposes. In the form shown a mixture of oil and compressed air leaves the compressor by way of duct 2 and flows into a receiver 3 where the oil is separated out and recirculated through a cooler 7 and through a thermally controlled valve 9 back to the compressor chamber. The valve 9 controls the quantity of cooling oil delivered to the compressor chamber in accordance with the air temperature at the compressor outlet. To ensure a flow of oil at all times to the rotor bearings either the valve 9 is constructed to preclude complete closure at the minimum compressedair delivery temperature or alternatively, a bypass 13 is provided for this purpose.
