Abstract

808,139. Glazing ALUMINIUM ENGINEERING PTY. Ltd. April 30, 1956 [May 4, 1955; Sept. 2, 1955], No. 13276/56. Class 20(3) A glazing bar 1 has a hollow box-section web 8, the outer end wall of which is thickened to form an outer flange 9 and the inner end is extended to 'form lateral support arms 4, 5 for the inner faces of adjacent glass [panes 17, a cover strip 2 being secured to the bar 1 to bear against the outer faces of the panes 17. Cylindrical recesses 6 accommodate packing cords 7 which are made e.g. of rubber and are of larger diameter than the recesses so that they have to be stretched. before they can be fitted. The cover strip 2 is secured in position by means of tubes 3 which are formed of sheet metal strips, Fig. 6, and are sprung into corresponding: holes in the web 8, tangs 20 being bent out from the tubes to locate them in the web 8. The tubes 3 are accepted in corresponding apertures 18 formed in flanges 15 on the outer ends of the cover strip 2, the latter then being moved longitudinally so that the inner edges of the flanges 15 resiliently engage the tubes 3 and the cover strips exerts a resilient pressure upon the glass panes 17. Holes 12 are drilled through both of the end walls of the web 8, which are grooved at 11 to facilitate drilling, the bar 1 being secured to a structure by bolts before the cover strips are fitted. An end plate 21, Fig. 7, is fitted within a slot 22 adjacent one end of the web 8.
