Abstract
807,812. Refrigerating. HERON, A. G. March 8, 1957, No. 7714/57. Class 29 Defrosting by an electric heater 15 is initiated by a time switch 10 driven by a high impedance motor 12 operating only during periods of refrigeration and defrosting. The time switch arm 10 is connected to a positive source P. One contact 17 is connected to earth N through a thermostat 18 and the compressor motor 19. The other contact 20 is connected on one side to earth through the high impedance motor 12, the contact of thermostat 18 remote from contact 17 and the compressor motor 19, and on the other side to earth through normally closed thermostats 13, 14, responsive to evaporator temperature and pressure respectively, and the heater 15. The impedances of the heater and compressor motor are small compared with that of the timer motor. During normal refrigeration the switch arm is at contact 17 and the compressor motor is cycled by the thermostat 18. When this is closed current flows through the contact remote from contact 17 through the motor 12 and the heater 15, but owing to the high impedance of the motor the potential drop across the heater is insufficient for it to operate. When switch 18 is open both compressor and timer motors are inoperative. On defrosting the switch arm is at contact 20 and the timer motor and heater are in parallel, while the compressor motor is in series with the timer motor and thus inoperative. A fan 19a is connected in the circuit.
