Abstract
A starting arrangement for a single-phase motor 2 including a main winding 4, a starting winding 3 and a starting resistor 8 in series with winding 3, is characterized by resistor 8 having a resistance/temperature characteristic as shown, Fig. 1, viz. such that, on increase of temperature of resistor 8 from room temperature, it first exhibits a negative temperature coefficient of resistance (NTC) and then, above a given transition temperature, exhibits a positive temperature coefficient of resistance, the NTC portion (II) of the characteristic beginning above, and finishing below, a critical resistance level G at which current sufficient for the starting of the motor 2 flows in the starting winding 3. The resistance of starting resistor 8, upon application of heat, at first drop by about one order of magntude. Motor 2 is housed in a hermetically closed housing 1 and is switched on via the contact 6 of an evaporator thermostat 7 of an enclosed refrigerating unit. Specification 1,096,513 is referred to.
