Abstract

1,186,120. Automatic control of refrigeration. TRANE CO. Dec.9, 1968 [Dec.18, 1967], No.58292/68. Heading G3R. Fluid-pressure in the refrigerant condenser of a refrigerator is maintained uniform by an electrical resistive transducer, responsive to the fluidpressure, which controls a gated semi-conductor switch in the supply to an electric motor driving a condenser cooling fan. As shown, when the temperature inside a refrigerator 12 falls below a predetermined value a bellows 36 closes the electrical supply circuit to a motor driven compressor 14 which circulates refrigerant through an evaporator 20 and a condenser 16. A bellows 48, responsive to refrigerant pressure on the outlet side of the compressor, compresses and thereby varies the value of a crystal or semiconductor resistor 50 in series with a condenser 42 so that the period during each cycle that the condenser voltage exceeds a value sufficient to render a controlled semi-conductor 40 conductive is dependent on the fluid-pressure. Since semiconductor 40 is in series with the supply to a fan motor 32 the speed of the latter, and hence the cooling of condenser 16, is adjusted to counteract changes of refrigerant pressure. If, however, the pressure does become excessive, a pressureoperated switch 38 opens to stop compressor 14.
