Abstract
807,807. Hydrolysing starch &c. WERKSPOOR, N. V. July 31, 1956 [August 29, 1955], No. 23607/56. Class 127. An acidified suspension of starch or other polysaccharide is passed through a heater and a reactor in cycle in which a temperature of more than 100‹ C. is maintained, at such a pressure that the mass does not boil, fresh suspension is continuously introduced into the cycle between the outflow side of the heater and the inflow side of the reactor so that fresh material will pass through the gelatinous phase before entering the heater, and hydrolysed product is continuously withdrawn from the cycle. According to an example, 1000 kg./hr. acidified starch liquor is pumped into 10,000 kg. of hydrolysed solution at 132‹ C. circulating through a heatinsulated reactor 4 and a heater 5 under a pressure of 10 kg./cm.<SP>2</SP>. Hydrolysed product withdrawn from the cycle by conduit 7 is heated to 150‹ C. in a heater 8 and further hydrolysed in a reactor 9, is expanded through a valve 10 so that its temperature is lowered to about 85‹ C., neutralized in a chamber 11 and finally flash evaporated.
