Abstract

807,362. Radio reflectors. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO. Ltd. Aug. 6, 1957 [Nov. 20, 1956], No. 35405/56. Class 40 (7). A collapsible group of corner reflectors il formed by three approximately square metas plates. The first of these A, Fig. 1, has a slot A9, closed at each end, extending across almost the whole of one diagonal and spring metal tongues A1, A2, A3 and A4 cut out in the positions shown. The tongues A1 and A2 normally project to one side of the sheet and tongues A3 and A4 to the other. At the ends of the opposite diagonal to that slotted the corners are cut away to form surfaces A5 and A6. A further plate C, Fig. 4, without diagonal slots has all its corners cut away to form surfaces C5, C6, C7 and C8 facing in the directions indicated and is also provided with the cut-out tongues C1, C2, C3 and C4 shown, the first two projecting to the opposite side of the plate to the latter two. In assembling the reflector group the plate C is entered through the slot A9 until the surfaces C7 and C8 butt against the part of the plate A at the ends of the slot. To do this the tongues C1 and C2 have to be pressed in and spring out again, the tongues C2 and C3 helping to retain the plate C perpendicular to and symmetrical with respect to A. The third plate B (Fig. 3, not shown) is then taken. This has slots similar to A9 in both diagonals, no cut-away corners, and no spring tongues. It is passed down over the assembled plates A and B and past the tongues A1, A4, C1, C4 which spring out behind it to secure it in position against the surfaces A5, A6, C5 and C6. The resultant assembly is shown in Fig. 6. The plates can be readily separated for storing by pressing down the tongues and removing plate B and then plate C. Holes such as A8, B3 and C10 are provided to facilitate hanging the group in a boat's rigging. Alternatively an angle strip or bracket for lashing to a spar may be provided.
