Abstract
766,087. Aerials. SADIR-CARPENTIER. Feb. 28, 1955 [March 1, 1954], No. 5963/55. Class 40(7) A wide band aerial comprises a slotted sheet of metal, the slot including at least one part which is of approximately circular shape and having a feeder connected to suitably selected points along its periphery. In one embodiment the aerial is formed by a relatively large conductive sheet having two circular openings 5 and 6 interconnected by a short channel 7 joining their nearest points. The periphery of each circular opening is made substantially equal to the mean operating wavelength and the feeder connected to the points 8 and 9. In another embodiment an almost closed circular opening 10 is made close to the edge 11 of a conductive sheet and connected by means of a short narrow gap 12 with the nearest point on the edge. The feeder is connected to the points 13 and 14 on the two sides of the gap. Slotted aerials of the types described may be incorporated into the structure of aircraft. For example the aerial of Fig. 3 may be associated with the leading edge of an aircraft fin (Fig. 4, not shown). In the case of a jet aircraft two such aerials may be located at the two sides of the air intake and symmetrical with reference to the medial longitudinal plane of the craft.
