807,038. Moulding-machines, lathe &c. centres. TACCONE, R. W. Nov. 26, 1956 [Nov. 30, 1955], No. 36123/56. Classes 83 (1) and 83 (3). A machine for packing a liner of granular material inside a hollow casing 1, Fig. 5, comprises an elongated tubular diaphragm 12 for insertion into the casing, and means 17 for applying compressed-air within the diaphragm. The casing 1 is clamped to a base 22 by pivotedarms 3 carrying hooks 4 engaging the flanges of a hopper 7. Moudling material is supplied through slots in the hopper to the space 2 between the casing and the diaphragm 12, which is held against its support 13 by suction. When the mould is full, compressed-air is admitted to the inside of the diaphragm to compress the moulding material. In a modification, sand is blown into a mould 101, Fig. 1, from a container 108 through holes 109. A diaphragm 105 is then expanded within the mould to compress the sand, and finally pulled against a mandrel 104 and withdrawn. In a further modification, sand is supplied by a spout 215a, Fig. 8, to the inside of a mould 211 which is simultaneously, or subsequently, rotated by a motor 213. A diaphragm on a rotary support 223, Fig. 9, is then introduced into the mould and expanded to compress the sand. The support 223 is rotated synchronously with the mould by a motor 226, and is centred at its free end by a portable centre-support 221.
