Abstract

811,344. Pipe-casting machines. SMITS, H. F. M. May 10, 1956, No. 14519/56. Class 87(2). A concrete pipe is formed by moving a lower mould 2 mounted on guides 5 upwardly into a stationary mould 1 and casting concrete into the space between the two moulds, whilst vibrating the mould 2 by a vibrator 3. A groove may be formed in the end of the pipe by a ring 7 which may also be vibrated to compact the concrete longitudinally. A linen strip 10 at the top of the mould 2 allows air to escape. When the mould 2 is lowered, it is not vibrated, but a steel strip 11 compresses the concrete radially and smooths it. At the end of its upward movement, pawls 9 engage grooves in the ring 7.
