Abstract
807,023. Reciprocating motors. LIBBEYOWENS-FORD GLASS CO. July 1, 1955 [July 1, 1954], No. 19017/55. Class 35. [Also in Group XXVIII] Vibration generating elements for use in cleaning surfaces (see also Group XXVIII) comprise spaced transducers which are preferably of a magnetostrictive type having a laminated core and windings 26. They are arranged at an angle to the path of the tables to be cleaned as indicated by Fig. 5. Slidably mounted in openings 18 are open frame clamping brackets 19 and mounted in the brackets are channels 20, 21 which support the transducers. The transducers may be easily removed to be repaired or transferred to another cleaning apparatus. The bank of transducers may be vertically adjusted by means of opposed adjustment screws 33. A pipe 40 directs water or other cooling medium upon the transducers. Alternatively cooling pipes or air jets may be used. In a modification there may be two rows of transducers. In this embodiment it is not necessary that the transducers shall be disposed at an angle to the path of movement of the tables since the transducers may be staggered. It is stated that the transducers may be moved instead of the object being cleaned. The vibration frequency may be 100 to 30,000 cycles per sec.
